Aquaro Histology develops innovative customer-centric products for the histology lab. Its first product, the AquaroASM, automates the transfer of paraffin-embedded sections directly from the microtome to slides. Description:  Aquaro Histology Inc. is seeking smart, motivated, energetic, team-oriented individuals to assist with product sales and support. We are a startup company in Ann Arbor, MI developing, manufacturing and selling products & devices to streamline histology. We are releasing an automated section mounting device that, when paired with a microtome, automates the tissue sectioning and slide mounting process.

The Field Application Specialist position will be responsible for providing scientific expertise, applications support and training to customers of Aquaro Histology’s product line through a variety of interfaces including in-person, phone and email communications. The position will partner with sales representatives in the field, as well as the marketing and support team, to deliver product specific pre- and post-sales support, enabling the adoption and implementation of Aquaro products.

An ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, comfort and confidence interacting with customers, diversified knowledge of Anatomical Pathology, along with significant firsthand work experience in research and clinical histology laboratories.

A successful candidate will conduct impactful product demonstrations, act as a trusted expert to our customers, work closely with Sales, Marketing and Service management to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty, help drive continued success of the business and the timely achievement of team and company goals.

Key Responsibilities: Responsible for pre- and post-sales support for Aquaro product sales in the field of Histology with a minimum of technical or administrative guidance and oversight. Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse set of customers and internal stakeholders of the company and work collaboratively across different functional teams.

Pre-Sales Support

  • Organize and perform product demonstrations at customer sites, providing training and technical support during customer evaluations
  • Collaborate with potential customers and Sales Representatives to identify and develop solutions and strategies to meet customer specific goals
  • Act as a source of technical expertise in Histology and the Aquaro product line
  • Network with customers and provide feedback to Product Development and the Marketing
  • Team on customer requirements for product enhancements, new applications and new products
  • Represent company at trade shows and vendor shows presenting company products and gather information

Post-Sales Support

  • Provide remote and on-site start-up application support for new users
  • Perform new product installations and new user training as needed
  • Provide product and application information, answer customer inquiries and escalate complaints in a timely manner as necessary
  • Liaise with Service to provide troubleshooting support to customers in the field
  • Report regularly on customer and technical activities in the field, providing continuous updates to customer contact information and relevant technical or product use information

General

  • Maintain updated scientific knowledge, staying current on scientific trends in histology and advancements in the industry
  • Assist with generation and qualification of sales leads
  • Assist Marketing, Service and Development teams with development of product, technical support and application documentation; may include lab work and data analysis
  • Accountable for proper management of expenses, scheduling and tracking of activities
    Effective and comfortable working remotely

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or greater in a life sciences or related discipline is required
  • Minimum of 7 years’ work experience within Life Sciences is required
  • Minimum of 4 years’ work experience as a bench Histotechnician or Histotechnologist (or equivalent) with strong skills and experience with paraffin embedded tissue sectioning, mounting and staining
  • Lab experience with operations under regulatory and/or ISO control
  • Experience and success in a customer facing role (may substitute with experience providing technical or scientific support to an internal audience)
  • Energetic personality, excited by a small companyand a dynamic role
  • Willingness and capability to travel an estimated 40 – 60 %, including overnight stays
  • Able to move and handle demo equipment, coordinate shipping of products, and lift 30 pounds (Required to conduct on-site demonstrations)
  • Valid Driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or greater in a life sciences or related discipline
  • ASCP Certification as Histotechnician or Histotechnologist – not required but helpful
  • Lab experience in both a clinical and research setting

Description:  Aquaro Histology Inc. is seeking a creative, collaborative, self-motivated individual with embedded firmware experience to become part of our R&D Team. We are a startup company in Ann Arbor, MI developing, manufacturing and selling products and devices to streamline histology. We are releasing an automated section mounting device that, when paired with a microtome, automates the tissue sectioning and slide mounting process.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop firmware for benchtop lab instruments with robotic, fluidic, thermal, optical, and UI subsystems
  • Inform architecture and I/O planning for electrical schematics
  • Assist with hands-on testing and troubleshooting of firmware-controlled subsystems
  • Document code, including theory of operation, architecture, and communication protocols
  • Assist with design requirements, regression testing, and V&V protocols
  • Manage version control environment

Qualifications:

  • M.S. EE, Comp E, Computer Science, or similar
  • Must have competency with Microchip’s PIC24 processor family
  • Must have experience with products containing robotics and/or motion actuators
  • Must have an understanding of:  SPI, motion algorithms, PID control, optical sensors, ADCs, and UI/UX design
  • At least 3 years of relevant experiences

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The Engineering Director oversees internal and external resources and the functional workload of a 3-5-member R&D team. They are responsible for delivering a robust product design to production.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with project manager to prioritize product design efforts that ensure on-time delivery of designs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain engineering best practices.
  • Lead root cause analysis and update processes or designs.
  • Quickly analyze information and drive design decisions to closure.
  • Ensure the team is equipped with appropriate design tools and resources.
  • Interface and guide any external development partners as needed
  • Update Solidworks models as necessary
  • Lead design reviews, risk analysis, and develop documents to support DHF.
  • Modify or rework components/assemblies as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • MSME, MSEE, or similar degree
  • 10+ years experience in laboratory equipment product design, including:
    • Design and engineering of injection molded and sheet metal components
    • Comfortable with Solidworks
    • Experience using DFMEA or other analytical tools
  • 5+ years engineering leadership managing direct and indirect employees
  • Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision making outcomes with internal stakeholders.
  • Must have a “whatever-it-takes” attitude using diplomatic leadership skills within a collaborative teamwork environment to accomplish the necessary results.
  • Proven and effective communication, analytical, judgment, initiative and execution skills.
  • Working Knowledge: Proper drafting, dimensioning and tolerancing techniques, including GD&T.

Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Experience using other CAD tools
  • Experience with robotics and/or fluidics design
